I also received the same e-mail today....and first I was in shock. But, than I checked information on the official Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery web site and this is what they said about notification procedure:
"Fraud Warning
Please Note: There have been instances of fraudulent websites posing as official U.S. Government sites. Some companies posing as the U.S. Government have sought money in order to "complete" lottery entry forms. There is no charge to download and complete the Electronic Diversity Visa Entry Form. The Department of State notifies successful Diversity Visa applicants by LETTER, and NOT by e-mail."
So, this is obviously a scam! The Department of State notifies successful Diversity Visa applicants only by LETTER!!!

I am a South Korean. I got an email from a source claiming to be the United States Department of State (usafis_org@post.com, usafis.org, etc.). I know I can't be part of the DV program because I learned that South Korea is not eligible for this program from the beginning. I believe this is a fraud. Are British people (or whoever sent this email to me) that dumb? Are they that desperate to make money this way? I apologize for making all British people bad but I am just that mad. I hope the government can take some actions. I wonder why people are doing this.
Don't send money here. I am glad I am not gullible.

Dear Dana Smith, am glad to see your response on this issue, but please let us know how usafis communicates genuinely to DV lottery winners, how exactly is a winner informed of his winning and what is expected of a winner.

Got one today from dv@usafis-org.com ... Funny thing is I just got my green card almost two years ago so it was quite obvious .. But question is where did they get my info from?? Obviously they got some info. That's provided only when I Entered for the lottery draw at USAFIS website..

i have received this e-mail
is it scam?
Your registered name( qamar yameen (maralsdk@yahoo.com ) is included to show this message originated from U.S. Department of State. U.S. Department of State notifies qamar yameen of being selected as a winner of the Diversity Visa program.
Dear qamar yameen , You are one of the 50,000 winners selected by the computer random draw from the 12.1 million entries registered in the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program . The Diversity Immigrant Visa program is a United States congressionally-mandated lottery program for receiving a United States Permanent Resident Card. It is also known as the Green Card Lottery.

hi
i recived an email from dv@usafis-org.com about wining us green card.
i didnot apply for green card yet.
the proccecing fee that i must pay is 879 usd for each person of me and my family .
is this email scam ???
2011/08/14 09:27
Hi Javad,
this is a big SCAM, please do yourself a big favor and delete the message. I received the same email from dv@usafis-org.com as one of the 50.000 lucky Green Card winners selected randomly by a computer program. They require me to pay 879 dollars via Western Union to a person residing in London. I did some Internet search and found a lot of useful information. All sites, including that of the US Department of State, confirm that this is a FRAUD.
I had bad experience with USAFIS which is a telemarketing company and NOT a legitimate Green Card Lottery Service. A few years ago, I saw their online advert and registered for the lottery in good faith, with my country and qualifications being eligible (name, email address and phone number had to be given). They called me shortly afterwards. The guy was aggressive on the phone though I was in the office working late and told him I didn't have much time to discuss things. He was inquiring about my marital status and salary amongst others, and instructed me to sit down to the computer and pay an application processing fee of 59 dollars via credit card immediately while he was holding the line. I resisted and said I had to finish the conversation as it sounded really suspicious. He got very angry and told me I had lost my chance so we hung up finally.
Thank God that I was reluctant to pay as I read later about others’ experiences who have been defrauded. Here are some comments: http://www.immigration-information.com/forums/general-topics-2/green-car..., http://journalxtra.com/2011/07/scam-alert-us-department-of-state-visa-lo...
The scam message I now got from dv@usafis-org.com stinks because if it's not from them, then somebody is misusing their database. If it's from them, even worse. Either way, forget it.
This is the link to the one and only legitimate Green Card Lottery: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_1322.html#3. And a quote from there: Fraudulent websites are posing as official U.S. government sites. Some companies posing as the U.S. government have sought money in order to "complete" DV entry forms. There is no charge to download and complete the Electronic Diversity Visa Entry Form. To learn more, see the Department of State Warning and the Federal Trade Commission Warning. The Department of State does NOT notify successful DV applicants by letter or email. Entrants can check the status of their entries, as explained below, by returning to the website at http://www.dvlottery.state.gov to find out if their entry was or was not selected.
Hope the above will help you and others as well.

Hello,
I received the same type of email asking me to pay $879 processing fee to:
Name : Jim Barrett
Address: 30 Leicester Square
London, WC2H 7LA
United Kingdom
As I did not apply for the lottery, it is obviously a scam. Also, when did the US government make a single person the recipient of such a payment. It is unheard of. So I decided to research further and was pleased to discover that I am not wrong.
I believe that if any payment is to be made by western union, one has to be cautious and find out if there is any scam/fraud associated with it.

This organization AUSFIS is just Bull Shit. I registered myself on their website for immigration services and next I got a call from Adam White of AusFis working in so called late night shift 2:30 am in the morning Aus time. Initially he seemed reasonable but then started falttering about my qualification, experience and that i fulfll everything needed to get the family imigration...he talked to me about 20 mins. Then he handed over the phone to her manager Nicolas Johnson who was also very flattery and there she stuck on credit card things. She just wanted to have my credit card information to process the application and open the account for 687 Euros. Her fraud mentality clicked me and i gave her wrong credit card information and she also gave me an option to pay by paypal and wire transfer which i later discovered was a total trap. I am working in Middle East and warn everyone here and else elsewhere of this trap where you will end up loosing money. They will try to impress you about their knowledge about middle east governments immigration policies that you can't be national there, Australia is great, good education, security, bla bla . Be Safe . Sam
